Which size fits?
Size S: For ratchet straps, tie-down straps, and small parts. Perfect for small trailers up to 750 kg.
Size M: Fits tools, wheel chocks, and a tow rope. Standard for most car trailers.
Size L: For larger tool sets and camping equipment. Ideal for braked trailers. Size XL:For professionals with lots of equipment or caravan owners.
Mounting: U-bolts or screws
You have two mounting options: The U-bolt mounting requires no drilling and takes only 10 minutes – ideal if you don't want to damage the drawbar. The screw mounting is more permanent and even more stable, but requires drilling into the drawbar. Both options are rated for the maximum vertical load of the towbar.
Aluminum is lighter than steel, rustproof, and significantly more robust than plastic drawbar boxes. In an accident or when struck by a stone, plastic deforms or breaks – aluminum withstands the impact. The Altertool drawbar box is also sealed watertight: no rainwater penetrates, even during heavy rain on the motorway.
Regulations: What you need to know
In many countries, there are no specific regulations for drawbar boxes. The only important things are that the box must not exceed the permissible nose weight of the towbar (this is stated in your vehicle registration document) and must not obstruct any lights or the license plate. Altertool boxes weigh between 3.5 and 7 kg empty – leaving plenty of nose weight reserve for the contents.
Tongue weight: What you need to know
The box and its contents contribute to the vertical load of your towbar. The permissible vertical load is specified in your vehicle registration document (section 13) and is be
tween 50 and 100 kg for most cars. For example: Box M weighs 4.5 kg empty + 10 kg tools = 14.5 kg vertical load. With a permissible vertical load of 75 kg, there is plenty of leeway.
Compatibility: Fits these trailers
The Altertool drawbar box works with all trailers whose drawbar tube has a diameter of 4 to 8.5 cm . This includes:
Unbraked car trailers (Stema, Humbaur, Saris, Böckmann, Brenderup, Anssems), braked trailers up to 3,500 kg, boat trailers, motorcycle trailers, and tipper trailers. Not suitable
for caravans with a V-drawbar – these lack the straight tube for attachment.
OEM are welcome for us. Customers’ brand, logo, label can be customized for the products and carton package, but based on a certain quantity.
