Intended use

The aluminum drawbar box is specifically designed for the safe and organized storage of tools, trailer accessories, safety equipment, and other essential items. Its unique construction allows for direct mounting on the drawbar of trailers, caravans, or similar vehicles.
It is important to note that the aluminum drawbar box should only be used for the purposes described above. Any modifications, improper use, or overloading of the box can compromise its structure and function, and endanger safety. Always ensure that the maximum load limit is not exceeded and that the box is properly attached to the drawbar. Any use beyond that described here is considered improper and may result in damage or injury.

Safety instructions

  • Before starting the assembly, read the instruction manual completely and make sure that all steps are understood.
  • Assembly should only be carried out by persons who are familiar with the instructions and have the necessary tools.
  • Keep children away at all times and do not allow them to operate the drawbar box.
  • Do not attempt to tamper with or disassemble the box yourself.
  • For your own safety, only use accessories or spare parts that are specified in the instructions or whose use is recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Never drill holes in the drawbar of your trailer.
  • When installing, take into account the vertical load of your trailer hitch and adjust the load on the drawbar box accordingly.
  • Always ensure that the drawbar box is properly closed before starting your journey to prevent loss or damage to the contents during the trip.
  • Observe the maximum load limit and do not exceed it.
  • When storing and removing items, ensure that no sharp or pointed objects damage the inner walls of the box.
  • Regularly check hinges and locks for proper function and lubricate if necessary.
  • During assembly or operation, do not allow any clothing or body parts to get between the lid and the box body to avoid crushing.
  • Make sure to work in a stable position to avoid falls or incorrect use of tools.
  • Work in a well-lit environment and on a stable surface. This minimizes the risk of errors and accidents.

Requirements for mounting the aluminum drawbar box

Before starting the assembly work, you should ensure that you have all the necessary tools and materials and prepare the work area accordingly. It is advisable to read the assembly instructions completely first to get an overview of the entire process and to ensure that all steps are carried out in the correct order.

Required tools and aids:

  • Screwdrivers : Phillips and slotted screwdrivers in various sizes.
  • Wrenches : An adjustable wrench or a set of ring or open-end wrenches.
  • Drill : With suitable drill bits for pre-drilling, if necessary.
  • Measuring tape : For precisely measuring the mounting position.
  • Spirit level : To ensure that the box is mounted straight.
  • Pencil or marker: For marking drilling positions.
  • Safety goggles : To protect the eyes during drilling or other work where splinters could be produced.
  • Gloves : To protect hands from sharp edges or when handling heavy parts.
  • Deburring tool : For smoothing sharp or rough edges after drilling or cutting metal parts. This ensures that there are no sharp edges that could injure the user or hinder assembly.

Mounting a drawbar box on a V-drawbar and on a square drawbar

Preparation:

Prepare all the mounting parts included in the set and ensure that the drawbar box and drawbar are clean and free of obstructions.

Positioning of the drawbar box on the V-drawbar:

Place the drawbar box on the V-drawbar of your trailer. Ensure that the handbrake lever and jockey wheel crank remain freely accessible and that the box lid can be fully opened.

Positioning of the drawbar box on the square drawbar:

Position the drawbar box centrally on the square drawbar. Ensure that the box is centered and that the handbrake lever and jockey wheel crank remain easily accessible.

Marking of drill holes:

Once you have found the optimal position for the drawbar box, mark the spots on the bottom of the box where the holes for the mounting screws should be drilled. The mounting screws should be located as close as possible to the profiles of the V-drawbar.

Drilling the holes:

Remove the drawbar box from the drawbar and carefully drill the holes at the previously marked locations.

Smoothing the drill holes:

Use the deburring tool to remove any burrs or sharp edges from the freshly drilled holes and ensure a clean surface.

Attaching the metal tabs:

Place a perforated plate over each of the drilled holes in the drawbar box.

Box mounting:

Reposition the drawbar box on the drawbar. Insert the screws with washers through the holes in the sheet metal tabs and the box base.

Attaching the counter plates:

From below, place the counter plates onto the screws, add the other washers and secure everything with the safety nuts.

Tightening the screws:

Align the drawbar box correctly and then tighten all screws.

Final inspection:

Check the box's stability on the drawbar by gently shaking it. It should be firmly in place and not move.

Notes:

  • Depending on the type and shape of the drawbar, individual adjustments may be necessary.
  • Make sure there are no sharp edges or protruding screws that could cause injury.
  • Regularly check the tightness of the fastening, especially after long journeys or sudden movements of the trailer.

Maintenance and care:

  • Regular cleaning : Wipe the drawbar box with a damp cloth at least once a month to remove dust, dirt and deposits.
  • Regularly check the fastenings: You should check all fastening elements of the drawbar box for tightness at least every three months. With frequent use or driving on uneven roads, it may be advisable to do this more often.
  • Store the drawbar box in a dry place : When you are not using the trailer, make sure that the drawbar box is stored in a dry place, especially in damp weather.
  • Protection from the elements: A cover or special protective coating can help protect the drawbar box from the elements.
